Just a week after the midterm elections and Texas legislators have already pre-filed some 400 pieces of legislation they will introduce once the two chambers convene on Jan. 8, 2019.
Among the bills potentially affecting businesses in Texas is one introduced by Rep. Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth, which would prohibit cities from passing paid sick leave ordinances. San Antonio and Austin have already passed such bills.
Filing early gets a bill a lower number. But the lowest numbers are reserved by the House speaker and lieutenant governor, who assign those numbers to their top-priority legislation.
